Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial World Series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I want up in that situation except for him with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
