The President Welcomes Relatives of Attacked Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told journalists. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy caused the administration to pause asylum processing and halt granting visas to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she planned to visit the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
