Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
